RedShip is a well-scoped indie product that does the Reddit triage job properly and refuses to automate the part that should stay human. The SEO and AI citation angle is a genuine differentiator if you care about Reddit threads ranking for years, and noise if you only want leads this week. Disclosure: this review is published by Peeklens, a direct competitor. We have tried to be exact about what their site actually claims.

What RedShip is and who built it
RedShip is a Reddit marketing tool built by Axel Schapmann, who tells the origin story openly on the homepage: he shipped several SaaS products, kept finding early customers on Reddit, and got tired of scrolling subreddits every morning hoping he had not missed the one thread that mattered. The site claims more than 1,900 users and links to other products from the same maker, including FreelanceKit, MyFeedIn and Rankr.
Onboarding is deliberately short. You add your website, RedShip reads it to work out what you sell, and turns that into the keywords worth watching. From there it monitors posts and comments across Reddit, scores each match from 0 to 100, and delivers the good ones by email or Slack.
The four feature groups
- Thread monitoring. Posts and comments across all of Reddit rather than a shortlist of subreddits, matched against your keywords and brand, scored so you read ten threads instead of hundreds.
- Competitor tracking. Mentions of the tools your buyers already pay for, with switching intent flagged. Complaint and alternative threads are the warmest leads on Reddit.
- Reddit SEO. A weekly scan that finds Reddit threads already ranking on page one for your keywords, with search volume attached, so you can reply where the traffic already lands.
- AI visibility. Weekly checks of what ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answer for your buyer questions, your share of voice against competitors, and the exact threads they cite.
What RedShip genuinely does well
It refuses to auto-post
Their own copy says the digging is machine work and the reply is yours, because Reddit hunts bots and shadow-removes their comments. That is the right call, and plenty of competitors get it wrong.
Scoring, not just matching
A 0 to 100 relevance score is the difference between a tool you use daily and an inbox filter you mute after a week. Keyword-only alerts lose to this quickly.
The compounding pitch is real
Reddit threads do outrank vendor pages and do get cited by assistants. Surfacing the threads already ranking is a smarter target than replying to whatever is newest.
Priced for founders
$29 a month billed yearly puts it in the same bracket as the indie Reddit tools rather than the enterprise listening platforms, and the $12 week-long pass is a fair way to test it.
Honest limitations
Reddit and nothing else
This is a feature if Reddit is your channel and a wall if it is not. There is no X, LinkedIn, Hacker News, YouTube or news coverage. If your buyers argue about tooling on Hacker News or your brand risk lives on X, you will need a second subscription.
Ten keywords, three competitors
The Founder plan tracks one website, 10 keywords and 3 competitors. In a crowded category three competitors is thin, and moving to 10 competitors and 30 keywords means the $49 Company plan. There is no published per-keyword add-on, so the upgrade is the only lever.
No free tier
Every other tool in this space has either a free plan or a free trial. RedShip has a $12 seven-day pass. Twelve dollars is not a barrier, but it does mean you cannot confirm that anyone discusses your niche on Reddit before paying. Run a few manual Reddit searches first.
Weekly cadence on the interesting parts
Monitoring is live, but the SEO opportunities and AI visibility scans are weekly. That is reasonable given how slowly rankings and model answers move, and it does mean those features are a planning input rather than something you check daily.
A small, young product
It is one founder with several products, and the AI visibility and SEO features are newer than the core monitoring. Judge it on the monitoring, treat the rest as upside, and use the seven-day pass rather than committing to a year up front.
RedShip compared to the alternatives
RedShip, Peeklens and the free options overlap heavily on the core job. The differences are in what happens after the thread is found.
| Tool | Entry price | Scoring | Auto-posts? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RedShip | $29/mo annual | Relevance 0-100 | No, by design | Reddit plus SEO and AI citations |
| Peeklens | $19/mo | Buying intent 0-10 | No, by design | Turning threads into leads |
| Octolens | $159/mo annual | Relevance and sentiment | No | Teams monitoring 13+ platforms |
| F5Bot | Free | None | No | Bare keyword alerts |

Who should actually use RedShip
- Solo founders and small teams who already know Reddit works for them and want the morning scroll automated.
- Anyone playing the long game on Reddit SEO, where a single reply on a ranking thread keeps earning clicks for years.
- Marketers who care about being cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity and want a weekly measurement of it rather than a vibe.
- People who have tried to be consistent on Reddit and quit, which is the exact failure mode their testimonials describe.
When a different tool fits better
- You need more than Reddit. Multi-platform coverage means Octolens or a traditional listening suite, at several times the price.
- You have no budget at all. F5Bot is free and will tell you whether your name comes up before you spend anything.
- You want volume of replies, not quality. RedShip will not post for you. Tools that do exist, and we cover the tradeoff in our ReplyGuy review. We think the tradeoff is a bad one, but you should see both arguments.
Where Peeklens fits
We build Peeklens, which competes with RedShip directly, so weigh this accordingly. The two products agree on the important things: Reddit only, AI scoring instead of raw keyword matching, competitor tracking, and never auto-posting to Reddit.
The differences are narrow and real. Peeklens scores on buying intent specifically, the likelihood that the author is in a purchase decision, rather than topical relevance to your brand. It drafts replies in the tone of the target subreddit for you to edit and post yourself. Plans start at $19 per month and include a free tier to test with.
What RedShip offers that we do not: the weekly Google ranking scan on Reddit threads and the AI citation share-of-voice reporting. If those two features are the reason you are buying, RedShip is the better product for you, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
